We were housed in a room
and from its corridor one could see Kanoli Canal not so elegantly carry its
dark, polluted waters.
I have always enjoyed the
beauty and tranquility of Calicut more than any other city and loved its
people. It is a city where even rickshaw services are hailed as the best
being served by the most honest drivers who take just the meter charge and
nothing more.
My love for this city
has been very special. Right from the childhood, when my father used to hold
my tiny hand and maneuver me through the busy city. Any visit to this city
has been always very passionate to me. While on holiday in India, I always
make some trips to the city just to be there.
In the hospital, you are
always busy. Although visitors were not much, there is always work for you
like bringing in food for the patient and care givers. In Baby Memorial,
there was another problem. You can hardly board the lift because it is
always busy and you have to come by the steps from the 5th
floor where we were housed. Also, you have to take those steps on the return
journey; by the time you walk up a few times, you have exhausted a lot of
your energy. There are many lifts in the hospital which were operating
continuously but the problem is that there was so much crowd, lifts just
could note cope.
One day, when I called
home, elder sister told me that she want to tell me something, 'something
important' I thought! I told her that we will speak when she comes to the
hospital. I did not go home after coming to the hospital which was about 60
KM further down north towards Kannur.
I spent time reading
Hindu and Mathrubhumi and occasional wanderings in the city including visits
to Internet cafes.
