Budget 2007-2008 is getting positive nods from all the corners of the
society. The 2.25 hour budget speech reported to
be the longest in recent history was a flow of facts and explanations
unlike the usual style of political gymnastics, quoting lines, long
speeches on hopes and dreams. The only quotation heard was that of’
‘Koutilya’ on tax collection. Saying “Tax collector must be like a honey
bee which collects the honey from flower without causing any damage to
the source”.
The budget had been a signature event of Dr. Thomas Issac who is an
Economic Expert himself. Budget 2007-08 focuses on increasing revenue
receipts, but at the same time Dr Thomas Issaac has made sure that it
does not burden common men. Addressing a press conference Dr Issac had
said that the Revenue receipts needed to be increased to speed up growth
in the productive sector and improve the quality of services.
