those who pass out of MBBS, Medical Post graduation and Post graduation
diploma from the Medical colleges and Nursing colleges of the state will now
have to complete a year of compulsory Medical social service.
Finance minister Dr. T.M. Thomas Issac promised the house to create a law on
this soon. This is a welcome move considering the low doctor / patient ratio
of the state. A total of 3 crores was allocated to build a new Medical
university in the state. Medical Supplies Corporation is to be formed for
the purchase and supply of quality medicines and equipments. New packages
will soon be announced to address the shortage of medical professors and
lecturers. 3.5 crores to upgrade Allapuzha Virology institute to national
standards and another 10 crores is expected as help for the central
government for this purpose. 20 crores for the development of the Trivandrum
Medical College and 50 crores for Calicut Medical College. This move will
help in sustaining the accomplishments of the state in this sector
The infrastructure of the state is getting from bad to worst. Attracting
investment without a good infrastructure is practically impossible. Other
states are growing with rocket speed in this area which makes it an urgent
need of the state to keep with the pace of other states. But the state in
not at all in a condition to invest in bulk. Finance Minister Thomas Issac
is hoping the huge NRI population of the state to help him out. He has
designed many projects to attract maximum NRI investment.
But there is an opinion going around that Issac could have opted for a
private-public sector to do the trick for him.
