The
medals won by the Malayalees totaled a grand 75 of which 31 were
prestigious gold medals.
Though the state finished fourth in the total
medal tally, it won the prestigious Athletics Championship Title
this year. The athletics troop which participated this year
displayed the best performance in recent history of Kerala
athletics, and second only to the performance displayed at 1987
National Games.
The troop could better their ranking even though
many medal winning athletes couldn’t join the troop this year. The
spirit and enthusiasm with which our athletes fought their way up
the ladder to hold high the states athletics tradition is deserve
commendation.
Kerala once more proves that it is one of the best
sporting state of the nation.
