Kerala wore the Athletics Championship title by wining an impressive 12 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze medals in the Athletic events.

The performance of Preeja Sreedar who won a fantastic 3 individual gold medals and of Arunjith who also won a impressive 3 Gold medals including the Sprint (doubles) Gold, were among the best performances.

When the state could maintain its earlier standards in areas like Athletics, Kayaking, Rowing, Cycling, Badminton, Boxing and Volleyball, it had to face setbacks in areas like Swimming, Football and Basketball among which Swimming was earlier considered as a sure shot of the state.

Now that they have got another impressive win in their bags the confidence and enthusiasm of the Athletes should have gone up, it is the right time the sports association and the Governments step in and sort out the problem areas and start working on them to continue providing Malayali gems to the world of Athletics.
