Finally a Take Off.
- Flying in and out of Calicut : beware, it's Air India
By T. P. Gopinath, June 26, 2007

On 9th early morning my friend visited Air India Express office in Dubai for a cancellation and to our relief he came back saying my ticket has been cancelled and that money would be credited back to the credit card in 10 days (I received part of that payment at the moment in my credit card). We made a really pleasant flight to the Colombo International Airport on 9th morning and after a transit stay close to 3 hours there in Colombo International Airport, we traveled to Kochi and landed on the right time around 11 PM. The flight by Srilankan Airways was truly spectacular and cheap compared to our ‘great low cost airliner’ - Air India Express.

As soon as we reached the airport in Kochi, we headed for Vadakara further away from Calicut on an approximately 6 hours journey by Car. Night was sleepless and the journey we made was through heavy rain. At dawn, we reached our destination tired and exhausted. Little kids plight was especially miserable while we sat in the car sleep deprived. To this day, 24th of June, I received no communication whatsoever from this low cost highly troublesome airliner. We reached our home exhausted both mentally and physically, torturing the two little ones in the process.

My complaint is not that I have suffered. My complaint is that I was not communicated. That's the most basic necessity - Air India! Please heed that call?

Air India Express has an extensive website. However, don't mistake. That site is just for collecting money. There is so much so that you can research your travel but that's it. What about 'flight status'? Can't you add something for information for your poor customer? Where is he /she supposed to turn at the time of delays, cancellations? Your phone is never answered.

On 11th, while at the stage beside my brother-in-law and glad that I could eventually get my wife home in time for marriage, I was still cursing Air India and praying for my dear city Calicut to get out of its dirty clutches.

Coming back to Calicut airports woes, we need two things to happen urgently. 1. More airlines should fly there so that Air India can fly or not fly as they wish. 2. Please, establish that facility for landing during rain so that flights can land. I hope Authorities are aware that there is monsoon in Kerala every year.
