I started to think
what to do next. 11th was the marriage and it was my wife’s dream to be
there. For me, the worry was also financial, having booked the ticket
through my already more than half full credit card. I understood
later on that I may not be refunded the full amount as almost half of it is
Tax.
By 12.30 PM on 8th, we
started to make an Emirates Airline ticket booking online using my home
PC to Kochi which would be however double the cost of Express. At the final
stage of the booking, the booking system reported some error and the attempt
was aborted.
Immediately after that was a trip to the Dubai Airport on
our attempt to get a booking. There, at the travel desk of DNATA, by 2 PM on
8th, we were told that the Emirates seats which we were trying from home are
now full and that only business class is available; approximately 6000 Dhs,
a sum, beyond my means, I turned to the next agent at the desk and asked for
any other seats on a flight to Kochi.
I had been terrified of trying Calicut again because I was
not sure whether I would go even if I have confirmation because it will be
Air India and with Calicut on the other side which by now I decided is a
dangerous combination to try.
I mentioned Srilankan Airways to the Srilankan national
agent at the DNATA counter which i knew was flying to Calicut and Kochi. She
immediately started to check on that option. To my great luck, the agent
managed to get us our tickets to Kochi on a flight departing Dubai on 9th
morning. We would be in Kochi by the 9th night after a few hours stay in
Colombo. This time, I was almost sure of reaching there in Kochi because the
flight wasn't Air India and I was not flying to Calicut. By the way, don't
you think that I have anything against Calicut, that’s the place I love
first.
