The
greatest achievement that my
father had for his effort is the fact that today I would instinctively and
with great interest pickup Hindu or any other such reading material of
interest online or offline with a serious interest to read, understand, and
learn.
My first job, a selection from
campus into one of India's finest computer companies was one of my language
skills greatest achievements. Today, I read widely, speak almost everyday,
write often, all due to the skills I developed in English language. I value
this achievement very highly. I know that I am still a kid compared to the
command many others around me possess. So, I am always in a mode of learning
and correcting myself. I know that there is no room for complacency here.
I remember, during the campus
interview, my language was abysmal. I hardly knew what different tenses
meant and could barely make a sentence. They must have found the curiosity
in me and combined with the fact that I managed other technical questions
during the Interview, I got my selection. Minus that show of little language
skills, it is a guarantee that I would have been ignored. So it was this
English language skill (only a budding skill at that stage in College) led
me to my first job which I consider one of the greatest achievements of
life.
The credit for instilling this
interest in language goes solely to my father. He bought the popular 'Rapidex
English Speaking Course' many years before and I never touched it. Once my
interest was on firm ground, my reading of that book was whole hearted too.
A good command of English language
will go a long way in the success of any individual today. In every sphere
of life, this skill will be a major plus. You will be confident to deal with
people, go places, and excel in your job. Personally for me, it is instant
gratification when I speak and write well.
However I am never satisfied with
my language and am aware that I have miles to go. I fully understand that it
is a lifelong learning process and I like it due to the enormous scope that
is there for improvement.
I would like to express my enormous gratitude for my
father for putting me in a path which made me seek a craving
for improvement. Today, far from being shy, I exude confidence handling
English. Also, I can never do anything that would belittle this great
language or use it for a boastful purpose because of my immense love and
respect for it.
