One
obvious
concern of aspirants of online trading would be about the level of PC
expertise required. However, the fact is that you only need to have a very
basic PC exposure to use the ICICI online trading system.
If you can operate MS
Office, if you can use web based e-mail, If you are familiar with PC
security fundamentals like login name and password, it won't be hard for you to handle
online trading. However, since money is involved, it is prudent to first get
confident about what you are doing and then proceed. Another caution as we
mentioned in the previous chapter, start with a small amount, understand how
the system works and then gradually add shares and their numbers.
Security of online trading systems:
On the web,
sites use a communication protocol called HTTP or Hyper Text Markup
Language. Technically, any transfer of data using HTTP protocol can be
easily monitored with software tools. This is, assuming someone ventures
specifically to monitor what is going on between your PC and the Internet.
Chances of which is very low. However ICICI and most other online trading
systems uses a secure protocol for communication between your PC and the
trading server. This is called the HTTPS protocol. This is expanded as
HTTP Over SSL (Secure Socket Layer). This is a protocol enabling the secured transmission of
Web pages. Here you are using an encryption
method to secure your
conversation with the trading system.
Also,
understand that your user name and password for the trading system must be
kept secret. If someone get hold of that, they may be able cause harm much
more easily than using more complex methods.
