A
Muslim President; a Sikh Prime Minister, both highly educated and well known
as rocket scientist and foremost economist respectively. Simplicity is their
hallmark!India with 84% Hindu population is in perfect harmony with
the religious lenience of its top leaders. How many other countries in the
world can accept such open-mindedness? including the US and the UK? I wonder
whether US and the UK will ever accept a Muslim as their president?
Not just accept, all Indians are truly proud of their
leaders and draw inspiration from such noble individuals as Abdul Kalam and
Manmohan Singh.
Our president, even though he is enjoying Country’s one of the best,
sprawling homes, Rashtrapathy Bhavan, he will be as happy to be put up in a
two bed room apartment. He was in fact staying in such a small house before
becoming president. Books he has written speak of his untiring efforts to
improve and excel in everything he was doing. It is evident from his
literary works that knowledge has been his pursuit and that is what elevated him to
the highest office of his country.
Prime minister on the other hand has been known to have studied under street
lights as he had no electricity at his home when he was a child. It is like
the story of great American president Abraham Lincoln.
Whatever is the condition of the rest of the politics and political leaders,
country’s top leaders are fine people, simple and truly great.
What more is
needed for Indian children to draw inspiration from?
As a political leader, Roman Catholic Sonia Gandhi needs mention as she is
the one who handed the post of the PM in spite of achieving peoples mandate
to become their leader.
On the ugly side, there are so many divisive forces in India. Politics is
the number one divisive force. However division is only reducing in spite of
the presence of these forces. Democracy while it strengthens the country it
is wrongly utilised by many individuals and politicians who does not follow
the discipline democracy demands.
Even though we sometimes think democracy is beautiful, we also
feel that so much liberty for people is the reason for many issues. However
in fact it is much better to be able to express yourself than being tongue
tied as in many other countries in the world.
In Kerala for example, so many businesses and industries felled due to never
ending strikes. Most of these strikes which culminated in closing the
establishment is totally unjustified. At the same time, if workers could not
demand their just needs, if they had to remain silent to the whims and
fancies of their owners, that’s not good either. What is needed is a middle ground where both owners and workers have their liberties and
rights for expressing and ascertaining themselves.
However India
will overcome all its problems and the way Indian economy is growing is
a pointer to that. Nothing seems to affect the upward trend.
All major spheres of a country like agriculture, education, health care, and
infrastructure, power, has either already undergone substantial improvements
or are being developed.
You might recall that in last election, BJP campaigned saying “India Shining”. They realised
the lack of shine after the results came. Not only that party, everyone
found out that, what Gandhiji always said was true. "India lives in its villages".
The present Govt. realises that all too well.
India is all set to conquer the world to become a developed nation! Let us
wish India the very best!
