getting notice among the cake- lovers. These cakes were sold at Rs
80 per piece; far low than the projected MRP of Rs 120.”Wheat cakes
are fast moving items with ever growing demand”-says Sreejesh, a
sales man of one of the Reliance Malls in Kozhikode.
Gone are the days, just baking houses and sweet
stores sold cakes. Now popular hotels and restaurants are turning to
cake business to tap the maximum potentials of food market.
Paragon Group sells cakes at their own
bakery outlet; Brown Town along with their restaurants in the city.
Brown Town offers a cake that is made with dried fruits, ginger
peel, almonds and much more. As per their claim, the traditional
item is soaked in home made wine, wild honey and rum to bring alive
its innate flavors. It is preserved for two months. One unit packed
in tin is priced rupees 400.
It is available in non-alcoholic variation
also.
“We are planning plum pudding cake as new year
version apart from our wide variety of cream, choco and fresh-fruit
cakes”-says Hamza, chef of Brown Town, Kozhikode.
They are offering home delivery also through
their restaurant outlets.
Domino’s Pizza introduced new variety
Choco Lava Cake .It doesn’t contain egg, according to the makers.
Upper layer of the cake is filled with almond nuts. Its price is
rupees 69 per piece. Butter scotch and Choco Lava without nuts have
good demand, says Domino’s Pizza’s sales person.
The cake makers think pure vegetarian customers
also come to cakes by offering egg less varieties. Sweet loving
people, who prefer fatless dishes, also turn to eggless variety.
Cochin Bakery is all set to attract customers
in its New Year sale.
“We have Black forest, Spanish delight,
vegetable cake, pine apple-coconut, coffee- walnut …This is the peak
time for cake sales. Here every variety has good customers.”-says
Ramesh, Cochin Bakery.
Other bakery outlets in the city, like Regal
Cakes and Delecta are also ready to deliver a wide variety of
festival cakes to their customers.
