Recently
concluded Lakshya-2011, three day technical fest of the
Engineering College, Kozhikode was an amazing event. As many as youngsters
and elders, equally participated in the Lakshya. Major national and
state level organizations took part in the gala with interactive open
sessions and informative seminars. Some giant public sector organizations
along with some private firms showcased their innovative technologies and
advanced products to the public.
Indian Army, Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO),
(Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), National Disaster
Response Force (NDRF), Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, KSEB, KSRTC, Energy
Management Centre, Kerala State Industrial Developmenty Corporation (KSIDC),
Cochin Shipyard, Brahmose Aerospace were some of the organizations who
presented their latest technical strength in various segments.
ISRO’s stall exhibited the scientific themes and models
of rockets and satellite vehicles along with many latest types of equipment.
The sample models of India’s first rocket, launched from Thumba on 21
November 1967, Aryabhatta, GSLV and PSLV origins, with informative displays
and descriptions were among the major attraction.
National Disaster Response Force explained the
functions of their sophisticated equipments for saving lives during
disasters. Enthusiastic children assembled there to listen the words of NDRF
personnel who had displayed the urbane machines and gave brief description
on each in a simple manner.
Major attraction of NDRF stall was Life Detector and
Victim Location Camera. The precautions to be taken during natural
calamities like flood, storm and earthquake, were explained at the stall.
Calicut Bomb Squad participated in the fęte with the
objective of spreading the message of precautions while facing with bombs
and other explosives. Many ultra modern arms in disguise even in the form of
toys were displayed to make the public cautioned while detecting such
dangerous items on the move.
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC)
introduced its advanced color sensor system, designed for the industry
needs. It was built in 4X20 LCD display.
Spreading the message of reducing the usage of
electricity in homes, Energy Management Centre (EMC),
distributed informative pamphlets for the public to
save energy usage. It says when you use eleven watts of , Compact
Fluorescent Lamps (CFL)lamps instead of sixty watt for 10000 hours, 490
units of electricity can be saved or it is as equivalent as saving rupees
1470 per unit.
According to E.M.C, CFL with reflectors would help to
focus light to specific tasks of reading room and kitchen; this task lights
reduce seventy five percentage of electricity usage.
The Final Year Civil Engineering Students organized a
remarkable stall with eco-friendly building concepts, green micro cities,
aimed for sustainable development.
“This is our environment-friendly, go green concept for
the future metros.”-says Sharanya, the final year student. The suspense
bridge designed and built by the same students attracted many children
.The movements on the bridge were really funny.
“We have made this bridge without any external support.
“-says Rithesh, another student of Final Civil Engineering.
Remote controlled Coconut Climbing Machine, designed by
Prakashan T.M, the former sales tax officer was displayed in the fest. The
machine can be operated without climbing on the tree. It costs rupees
15,000.
Jasna Joseph’s simple and great match-stick homes were
wonderfully designed. She made the houses by using match sticks and Plaster
of Paris alone.
Many technical education firms and other scientific
institutions also offered their products and services during the fest.
