Robotic Kerala:
It will be also
interesting to think this subject in Kerala context. Though it seems to be
hypothetical, robotic revolution can't be ruled out. In one way or other,
peoples lives would be influenced by robots. Suppose, after some years
Keralites would be facing some resource shortage because most of our
workforce go out of the country searching for more lucrative assignments -
the US or Middle East hiring them with attractive perks.
Most of the young generation is not at all interested in
children. Some others need only single kid. It is not a wonder while
considering the mind of today’s youth. Present day matrimonial
advertisements may be an instance to realize the minds of youth. Many prefer
to have no child at all. If resources are enough, people would buy robots
for making their lives comfortable. The expected growth in foreign
investment would lead Kerala to new heights of industrial developments. The
opportunities in IT and other related fields would increase. So Kerala
requires more human resources in future. This may be the common development
phenomena in Kerala within two decades.
The development would definitely affect all aspects of social
life. Nobody will be there in home to look after old people. At this time
one would think of robots that are suitable for helping old people.
Already many in the old age are compelled to stay in old age-homes. Old
people may go outside with the help of robots. Robots may answer the calls
of customers in a supermarket.
Preparing for robotic era:
In this hi-tech
era, one can't ignore the coming reforms. But anyone discussing about robots
would invite Kerala's ire, especially from the politics which opposed the
computers. They campaigned against computers alleging it would crush the job
opportunities. Paradoxically enough, those who opposed computers are using
it widely. Leader of the protest then, Chief Minister VS himself who
spearheaded it, had gone to Banaglore recently to plead with Infosys and the
likes to come and setup shop in Kerala.
Keralites may expect more protests in the future for
Robots too. One can find many hartals and marches protesting against robots.
There may be different perception and attitude towards every high tech
development. But at last everyone would compromise on easy-living with these
latest technologies.
