Coimbatore is known as the Manchester of South
India. The city is situated in the western parts of Tamil Nadu. It has a
population of about 9,77,900 according
to the census in 2004.

backward, Coimbatore which is in its neighbouring state and bordering

universities. It has an airport. Coimabatore is on the way to the famous hill station of Ooty.
Kodaikanal is also easily approachable from Coimbatore.

Other nearest major towns are Pollachi, Tirupur (the
cotton city), and Mettuppalayam (a gateway to the famous hill station of
Ooty).
Centre of Education.
Coimbatore is a center for education
and lots of students both from within Tamil Nadu and from states such as Kerala come here to pursue their studies. Coimbatore is the
seat of
Bharathiar and Tamil Nadu
Agricultural universities.
