Kranthi Jyothi Yatra attacked
KASARGOD: The Kranthi Jyothi Yatra, being taken out by the Youth Congress,
was attacked by a group of CPM men at Madikkai. The yatra, which was
inaugurated by KPCC president K Muraleedharan at Payyannur a few days ago,
was attacked when it was returning to Kanhangad after reception at
Kanhirapoil. The mob smashed the windscreens of a jeep and stoned two
other vehicles. A case has been registered against 30 CPM men in
connection with the incident.
Gulf Malayalees to set up industrial units
KASARGOD: Stung by the apathy of the successive governments in the welfare
of Gulf-returnees, expatriate Malayalees have decided to set up industrial
units in each district in the state and also to form an apex marketing
federation to sell the products. The industrial units are expected to
provide jobs to hundreds of people in the state. But the thrust would be
on rehabilitating the Gulf returnees, promoters of the project said. The
industrial units would be set up under the Indo-Arab Confederation Council
with former technical advisor of the UN V K S Menon as chairman of the
advisory council. The council would study the potential in each district
and would decide on suitable industrial ventures.

Three-day Kathakali workshop:
KASARGOD: The
three-day all Kerala Kathakali workshop began at Sagar Auditorium
yesterday. A colorful cultural procession was taken out in the Uduma town
to mark the beginning of the workshop. P V K Panayal, secretary of the
organizing panel, K V Kunhiram, MLA and Dr V R Prabhoda Chandran Nair,
chairman of the Kerala Kalamandalam, led the procession. Prabhoda Chandran
Nair inaugurated the workshop. Folk artistes Chandu Panicker, Ambu
Panicker and Chinda Panicker were honored.

CPI Janajagaran Yatra begins
KASARGOD: The Janajagaran Yatra, organised by the Communist Party of India
to highlight the alleged anti-people and communal oriented policies of the
central government was flagged off yesterday by party state secretary
Veliyam Bhargavan. Addressing a press conference before flagging off the
yatra Veliyam Bhargavan flayed the US for waging an unlawful war against
Iraq.

Journalist Union state convention on Mar 21
KANHANGAD: The Kerala Journalist Union state special convention will be
held on March 21 at Kanhangad. An insurance scheme for all members of the
union will be launched at the convention. Former president R Venkittaraman,
Union Minister O Rajagopal, Public Works Minister Dr M K Muneer, Local
Administration Minister Cherkalam Abdullah and T Govindan will attend the
convention.
State ready to acquire Aralam Farm
KASARAGOD: The state government will soon inform the centre its
willingness to acquire 7,000 acres of the Aralam Farm for distribution
among Adivasis, the Minister for SC/ST Welfare, MA Kuttappan has said.
Speaking a press conference here on Thursday, the Minister said a three
member Ministerial committee had been constituted to study and resolve the
labour dispute in the farm.
KSSP cultural rally
begins today- Oct 7th
KANGANHAD: The cultural rally, organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya
Parishad will begin today from Bandadukka. The rally will cover
Nelliadukkam, Pallathumkal and Kattadi today. The rally will conclude at
Balussery on November 1 after covering various districts. Open forums,
study programmes and discussions on development, health, education and
womens' issues will be held in connection with the one-month programme.
Chembai Sangeetholsavom from Dec 1
THRISSUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom has decided to organise this year's
Chembai Sangeetholsavom from December 1 to December 15.
A Devaswom release
said here that a special concert by renowned musicians will also be held
during the last 10 days of the festival. Those who desire to participate
in the festival will have to submit applications in prescribed forms,
which will be available free of cost at the Guruvayur Devaswom office
during working hours from September 27 to October 16. No Photostat copies
of applications will be entertained. The applicants should be above eight
years of age and should have learned Carnatic music for a continuous
period of 3 years.
Malabar Tourism Mela from Aug 9
KOZHIKODE: Union Civil Aviation Minister Shanavas Hussain will inaugurate
the Malabar Tourism Mela, the first one of its kind in the area, at a
function to be held at Kadavu Resort, Ramanattukara, on August 9. State
Tourism Minister Prof K V Thomas will preside. Tourism ministers from four
southern States, department officials, prominent tourism operators across
the country, hotel owners and travel agents will take part. Calicut
Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Malabar Tourism Board is jointly
hosting the festival.
