Mananthavady Bishop dead
KOZHIKODE: Bishop of Mananthavady Syro-Malabar Diocese Mar Emmanuel
Pothanamuzhi aged 71 died at a private hospital at Mananthavady yesterday
night. The Bishop, who has been undergoing treatment for kidney ailment,
was admitted to the hospital two weeks back. Funeral will be held on
Tuesday at St Joseph's Cathedral, Kaniyaram, near Mananthavady. Mar
Emmanuel Pothanamuzhi, born at Nadukkara near Muvattupuzha was ordained as
a CMI priest in 1964 in Mumbai. Before being consecrated as a Bishop, his
name was Mani Giles. He joined S H College, Thevara, as a Botany lecturer
in 1966.

selecting teachers in Mathematics, Biology, Sanskrit and Computer Science
for the next academic year on March 29. Candidates possessing a second

Vatakara THS emerges
champions at THS fete
SULTHAN BATHERY: Technical High School, Vatakara has emerged champions in
the State Technical High School Youth Festival, which concluded here
yesterday, bagging 46 points. THS Kannur and THS Cheruvathur shared the
second place by bagging 28 points each. THS Payyoli won third place by
bagging 26 points.

Cheruvathur was adjudged 'kalaprathibha' (10 points) and Sruthi Satheesh
(16 points) of THS Vatakara was adjudged as 'kalathilakam.'
The valedictory function was inaugurated by N D Appachan, MLA. Nafeesa
Ahammed Koya, president Sulthan Bathary panchayath, presided over the
function. K L Poulose, president of the Wayanad District Panchayat, gave
away prizes to the winners.
Protestors vandalise bank, three nabbed
KALPETTA: Three persons, said to be activists of ultra left outfit
Ayyankali Pada, were arrested on Friday for vandalising an agricultural
co-operative bank at Panamaram, police said.
A group of eight
persons raising slogans barged into the bank, damaged furnitures and set
fire to files as to mark their protest against revenue recovery
proceedings on agricultural loans, police said. Though they allegedly
threatened the bank staff, no one was injured.
Before the police
arrived on the scene, the troublemakers ran away. However, three of them
were tracked down and arrested later, police said.
Chembai Sangeetholsavom from Dec 1
THRISSUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom has decided to organise this year's
Chembai Sangeetholsavom from December 1 to December 15.
A Devaswom release
said here that a special concert by renowned musicians will also be held
during the last 10 days of the festival. Those who desire to participate
in the festival will have to submit applications in prescribed forms,
which will be available free of cost at the Guruvayur Devaswom office
during working hours from September 27 to October 16. No Photostat copies
of applications will be entertained. The applicants should be above eight
years of age and should have learned Carnatic music for a continuous
period of 3 years.
CU invites
applications for PG courses
KOZHIKODE: Calicut University has invited applications for admission to
first year MA, M Com, BLISc and diploma/certificate courses. Application
forms can be obtained from various centres. The duly filled applications
will be accepted till August 31.MA subjects include History, Philosophy,
Psychology, Development Economics, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, English,
Comparative Literature, West Asian Studies, Folklore and Music. The
applications for Automobile Engineering and Air-conditioning and
Refrigeration courses being conducted.
Malabar Tourism Mela from Aug 9
KOZHIKODE: Union Civil Aviation Minister Shanavas Hussain will inaugurate
the Malabar Tourism Mela, the first one of its kind in the area, at a
function to be held at Kadavu Resort, Ramanattukara, on August 9. State
Tourism Minister Prof K V Thomas will preside. Tourism ministers from four
southern States, department officials, prominent tourism operators across
the country, hotel owners and travel agents will take part. Calicut
Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Malabar Tourism Board is jointly
hosting the festival.
