V.S.
Achuthanandan issue has become a hot debate in political circles. The
state committee decision to keep Achuthanandan away from the poll fray
has invited severe agitation from his loyalists, hard-line communists and
pro-left organizations.
When outbursts came beyond party belt,
CPI(M)state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan came forward to blame the media for
publishing and telecasting “false reports”. But V.S Achuthanandan’s
meaningful silence for many days has doubled the party crisis. All over
Kerala, Achuthanathan faction questioned Pinarayi group’s decision.
In every nook and corner, posters and
banners appeared in support of V.S. Slogans and marches in favour of V.S
got wide coverage in the media. Anyway party leadership is preparing for
some hectic discussions to solve the issue.
The assembly poll is coming near and
party workers are in total confusion. The U.D.F is planning to take
advantage from the C.P.M crisis. But it is not clear whether the issue is
going to affect the poll. Some political think-tanks opined that C.P.M
leadership wanted to avoid V.S due to two major issues. 1. He is said to
be against any kind of development. His strong oppose against smart city,
express highway, A.D.B loan etc have contributed him such a bad name. 2
.His controversial statements on minorities, Lavlin issue etc are other
black mark considered by C.P.M state committee to keep him away.
But
one notable point is that since the Malappuram conference, a sort of
political highjack has been leading the party. Pinarayi group is
controlling the party. But recently it has changed and Achuthananthan’s
strong stand on D.I.C issue etc got accepted by central committee and
polit bureau. Again the other group thought if V.S becomes chief minister,
his hard stand on major issues and control over party will marginalize the
other faction.
But the active involvement of
independent people in the issue is noteworthy. V.S has been an active
opposition leader and ante-mafia protester. His fight against corruption
is admired by many common people irrespective of politics. He even dared
to challenge the prosecutor in public who proceeded the ice cream parlour
sex racket case, in which former minister P.K. Kunhalikkutty had been an
accused. He demanded an independent probe on Lavlin issue in which
Pinarayi Vijayan’s name was hinted. He opposed A.D.B loan, but the C.P.M
controlled corporations wanted to accept loan from A.D.B.
However, he is the main force behind
L.D.F victory in the local body polls and parliament elections. So it is
natural to give this leader great support for pro-left people. C.P.M
leadership has been in a dilemma on V.S issue. V.S issue has become
something more beyond party’s calculation.
