Kozhikode : The custodial death of a middle aged man at Panniyankara
police station has become a controversial subject in political
circles. The Muslim league and Congress is trying to politicise the
issue since it is the first such kind after V.S Achuthanandan took charge
as LDF chief minister.
Local
people at Perumanna responded to the death by organising a harthal
against the custody death. The police sub inspector of Nallalam
station was suspended after the incident. A detailed inquiry has begun
headed by crime detachment assistant commissioner. Rasack, a resident of Nallalam was arrested in a mobile phone
theft case. Police position is that, while questioning him, he died of
heart troubles. However UDF camp alleges that he was brutally handled
by the police.
K.P.C.C general secretary M.K. Raghavan told press persons that
post-mortem report of Rasack had been influenced by the police as per
the direction of home minister. He demanded a C.B.I inquiry on the
issue. As per the post-mortem report Rasack had died of heart-failure.
He had been suffering from heart-disease, according to police.
