Kalpeta
now hosts the
40th state school science fair. State science fair is a once-a-year inter -
school science workshop & work experience competition held for school
students of state of kerala.
This science event has
become a festival of its own kind over years; its stalls were always crowded
ever since its first inauguration lamp was lit 39 years ago. A large crowd
of students and common people come from all over the state to view the novel
projects of the young 'scientist' with awe and interest.
Every year a big number of students from almost all
the school of the state gather here to showcase their abilities, ideas and
innovations. Scientific and work experience contests are held in areas of
scientific models and innovations, beads works, card straw board, clay
modeling, book binding, sea shell works, bamboo, umbrella and ratten works,
paper craft, wood carving and a lot more. Unlike other fairs where already
exhibits are exhibited, the students are asked to make projects on the spot
with in the allotted three hour, which means it’s no child play!
The science
fair is not just another entertainment ground as it has a greater relevance
in the society. It creates awareness among the common people about science
and its capability to make their lives comfortable and their planet a better
place. For example the novel contraption introduced by Anish kumar of NSS
kalpeta, to faicilitate the physically challenged was a major attraction and
inspiration. As far as the students are concerned these annual fairs help to
grow interest in science and related subjects. It boosts their confidence,
seeing one among them being the center of attraction. It encourages the
positive and innovative thinking. They leave the pavilion deciding to come
back with their own projects next year, and it is indeed a great achievement
to spark imagination and creativity in young minds.
If you couldn’t attend the fair this time
to have a look at the future scientists and convey your support to these
future hopes of the country, never miss the next!
