Kozhikode: Heavy monsoon badly hit many villages in Kerala. The
coastal area is badly hit due to torrential rain for one week. In
Kozhikode Monsoon claimed four lives. One girl was killed in Memunda
near Vatakara, one youth drowned in Kakkodi, Punoor puzha.
One girl child drowned in a stone quarry near Balussery. Many hectors
of paddy field had been destroyed by heavy floods. Besides paddy farm,
many other agriculture products were badly hit. Many houses were
damaged. For many days electricity and telephone facilities were also
badly affected in the rural areas as well as the city.
The ministry level meeting had discussed the situation in the
district. A relief package has been announced. Rs.15,000 would be
given to those families with fully damaged houses. Rs. 5,000 would be
given to partial damage.
However the affected people say this fund is too meager to rebuild the
houses. Emergency relief fund of Rs.50 lakhs would be given to
district. Manzoon in Kerala destroyed 14.5 crores of Agriculture too.
