Leader K. Karunakaran has
been nominated as Congress Working Committee (CWC) permanent invitee by
Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Congress Central
Leadership expects veteran leader's induction in CWC will boost party circle
in Kerala. Central defense minister AK Antony is the only other CWC member
from Kerala. Central minister Vayalar Ravi and PJ. Kurian has been assigned
as Coordinators.
Karunakaran’s re-entry
in Congress top forum after a long period of four years has made his
supporters excited. There were reports Karunakaran would be entitled high
post in the party since he rejoined in Indian National Congress.
Karunakaran had formed
Democratic Congress Indira in 2005 challenging the party central leadership.
At last he reconsidered his earlier decision and expressed his longing to
merge his party with the mother front. As many as loyal supporters welcomed
the decision of the leader.
Congress general
secretary Mohsina Kiduay took the initiatives to open the door for
Karunakaran’s second coming. There was an official announcement in December
2007 of Karunakaran’s return. There were scuffles in the party lead by his
son and former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President K. Muraleedharan,
who had refused his father’s suggestion to rejoin Congress. Father and Son
separated. Karunakaran rejoined in Congress party with a great majority of
supporters.
Now leader has come
back to old foam. General elections are not far away. As the major opposition
party in Kerala, Congress has a vital role to engage in active politics.
Price rise, forest land acquisition, labor issues in agriculture sector, and
land mafia are some of the vital issues of the moment in
the state politics, along with political murders.
With Karunakaran’s
coming, party believes, new tactics and new protests will be realized to
boost party profiles.
