Kerala has become a target and operation centre of interstate
criminals. Recent robbery occurred in a Gamin Bank in Malappuram district is
a pointer to this scenario.
The planning, organized movements, using maximum resources,
and intelligence of this crime are something different from the history of
bank robberies in Kerala. So far Police have found no breakthroughs in their
investigation. The robbers have left nothing at the spot for a clue. Even
Police can not digest such a perfect execution by the criminals.
"The robbers took away gold and money worth approximately
seven crores from Chelembra South Malabar Gramin Bank". This was the primary
statement of the bank authorities after the robbery. Top police personnel
rushed to the spot. Director General of Police (DGP) also visited the spot
and released a sample picture of the defaulter owing to the magnitude of the
crime. He told presspersons that he was confident in the investigation and
the culprits would be booked soon. Police had some important clues on this
regard - DGP said.
While considering the organized nature and well-planned
operation, the criminals may have a wide link, possibly an interstate
racket.
They had spent money, hired a shop, used transport and human
resources and technical equipment to complete their pre-planned operation.
First they arranged a shop on rental basis. For this they paid certain
amount as initial payment. After some days they put a name board outside the
shop announcing the repair of the shop.
The bank is situated on the top floor of the same building as
the shop. On the pretext of the shop repair, they started their operation
step by step. They had by then understood in great detail nature of the
bank's location. They made a big hole from ground floor shop roof and
entered into the room. They might have used gas cutters and sophisticated
equipment to do this. From Saturday evening to Sunday night they
finished their operation and took away the ornaments and money from the
strong room.
Police suspect the involvement of outside criminals in this
plot. This happened after a long day’s home work and cunning moves. After
the news broke out many customers came in group in front of the bank. The
bank officials have given conformity that all the investments (both gold and
cash) were under insurance security and investors or gold loan customers
would be compensated.
Many asks how safe are our banks? When robbers are planning
new ideas, bank authorities are worried about the security of the money and
precious metals of the public. Without a serious improvement in prevailing
practices of securing their valuable possessions, customers will lose trust
in the banking system in Kerala.
