Bangalore:
Bharatheeya Janata Party (BJP) has become the single largest party in
Karnataka assembly election. The saffron brigade's march to a ministry in
Karnataka will pen a history too. It is the first time BJP has been elected
in a South Indian state to form a government.
BJP won 110 assembly
constituencies out of 224. Party lacked three members for a clear majority.
Six independent candidates found birth including four congress rebels and
two BJP rebels. BJP will form the government with the support of independent
MLAs. Congress gained 80 seats while Janata Dal (S) could only stand behind
Congress with 28 seats.
BJP veteran leader
B.S Yediyoorappa is reported to be the chief minister of Karnataka BJP
government. In 2004 assembly election, even though BJP had become the single
largest party by winning 79 seats, Congress-Janat Dal (S) tied-up to keep
BJP away from power. This became a set back to the party. But the joint
ministry of Congress and Janata Dal (S) could rule the state only for two
years. After breaking the tie with Congress, Janata Dal shared the platform
with BJP. But Janata Dal broke the contract of handing over power after 20
months. Later Janata Dal came forward to support BJP again but with some
tough conditions. But Dal didn't allow BJP to rule for one week .Yediyoorappa
had no option but to resign. Political pundits believe that sympathy wave
also became a boon to BJP to bloom the lotus.
BJP’s dream for
establishing Governmental presence since last twenty years has become
fruitful.
UDF and NSS to boycott
Sudhakaran:
Kottayam: United
Democratic Front (UDF) and Nair Service Society (NSS) have decided to
boycott the minister for co-operation K. Sudhakaran on the grounds of his
controversial statements against leaders of community and politics.
UDF made the decision
after Sudhakaran's controversial statement on A.K Antony.
Sudhakaran had
attacked NSS assistant secretary in extreme language. N.\SS general
secretary P.K Narayana Panikkar reiterated his support to Sukumaran Nair and
pooh-poohed minister's words. He said NSS was united and nobody could split
the organization by simply attacking its leaders with immature allegations.
He urged the party to warn Sudhakaran against unwanted controversial
statements. Panikkar warned "Pulling back minister from unpleasant statement
is better for the party".
Meanwhile Sukumaran
Nair rebuked CPM for not taking any action against the minister. He added
that boycotting the minister was the first step of protest and if party
continues its stand NSS would decide further steps.
