Kozhikode: Calicut
beach, near the Corporation office has been widely polluted with waste water
and sewages. The filthy water from nearby areas is flowing to this beach
since many days.
Being a tourist spot
with pristine sand and historical importance, many local and foreign
visitors arrive here to spend their evenings; enjoying the surf and cool,
fresh, breeze. But now the visitors can't help but mask their nose while
walking along the shore just opposite to Calicut Corporation office.
Recently many small
children and teachers in large number arrived here as part of their study
tour. They left the sandy shore with disappointment. The big and deep pond
with waste and mosquitoes made the whole area, unhygienic. Many government
offices and shops are located near by the shore. Children’s park is few
miles away from the foul smelling area.
The maintenance and
modification of beach comes under the supervision of Calicut Corporation.
The beach beautification project had been a live issue during the last local
body election.
