Kozhikode: Malayalam theatre guru K.T. Muhammad (79) passed
away in Kozhikode. His contribution to Malayalam drama field is unmatched.
Born in Manjeri, in 1928, K.T had his primary education in Himayatul Islam
High School. He could not complete his High School education because of
financial problems. Later he got a job in a post office. He served postal
service for 24 years. When theatre Brothers Music Club was formed in
Kozhikode, K.T became one of its active members with Musician Baburaj,
Kozhikode, Abdul Khader and others.
K.T penned many dramas for Sangamam theatres. Then he started
his own troupe namely, Kalinga. He married artist Zeenath but they divorced
later. His famous play "Srishti" is still famous. He wrote a script for the
first Malayalam colour film "Kandam Becha Kott". K.T has been always a true
humanitarian artist with full of sincerity. He questioned the conventional
and hardcore religious principles and encouraged new thoughts based on
humanity.
He stood against all types of religious fundamentalism
through out his dramas. His dramas became role model for religious
reformism. K.T's famous plays like 'Itu Bhoomiyan', 'Karavatta Pasu' etc,
had stormed into Keralas social life. K.T had won many awards including
Kerala Sahithya Academy award, Basheer Award, Kendra Sangeetha Nataka
Academy Award etc.
He served as chairman of Kerala Film Development Corporation
and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Chairman. K.T had been a significant
presence in Kozhikode's social circle. Despite illness and aging problems,
K.T represented all public functions. K.T attended all Cultural forums,
literary programs in Kozhikode. In the last days he could not speak much. He
made some emotional speeches in crisp words that were too touching to his
friends and well wishers. Every organizer’s of literary programs were
compelled to include this genius to attend their program. Those programs
were of-course made memorable with K.T's speech that came from his heart.
Zeenath's divorce made him unhappy in his later life. His
soft hearted mind had a deep pain on this separated relation, according to
his near and dears. People from all walks of life rushed to K.T's house to
pay their last tribute to their dear genius.
