Recent rise
in insurgency and terrorist outfits across the country has become a threat
to Indian democracy. It seems these terrorist outfits are planning to operate in
Kerala also. Tamil Nadu police detained five Maoists in an encounter last
day.
The fight between the terrorists and Tamil Nadu police
occurred near Kerala border in Teni village of Tamil Nadu. Three Maoists
were injured in police firing.
Maoists trainings were being held in a remote forest area of Pallathur. Special task force surrounded the camp and caught the militants. Meanwhile, a suspected Maoist leader, Malla
Raja Reddy was also arrested with a tribal woman on
Dec 17, 2007.
Maoists and their guerilla war was waged mostly from the
forests of central and eastern India. But now they are trying to impose
their ideology upon rural people in remote villages of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Tribals are their main targets according to intelligence agencies. There are
also reports that insurgent Naxalite outfits are working in the remote areas of
Idukki, Palakkad, and Wayanad. But these outfits target agitations and
protests against multi-nationals and seek support from common people.
After they have established their roots, they would start
their guerilla model attack. Prime
Minister Man Mohan Singh has called for an escalation in efforts to
encounter insurgencies. He told chief ministers that large portion of
recruits for militant groups came from regions untouched by India’s
scorching growth.
Recent sudden attacks centered in certain cities in Kerala
against multinational malls points to Maoists style. Terrorism should be cut
down in the buds. Government should take emergency measures to book
insurgent groups. Remote villagers and tribals should get opportunity to deal
with mainstream community.
The isolated attacks, campaigns, arms, and ammunition by
the Maoists create new threats to our way of life.
