Student
politics has been a matter of fact for Kerala. But recent incident at
Changanassery N.S.S Hindu College shocked everyone. While the students
clashed, one police officer lost his life. Some of the students were
seriously injured.
Campus has become a violent fiction. Weaponry and violence in
the name of politics break every law. Those who are pledged to grow as a
model of future citizens, fight and threaten each other. Students are
brainwashed by political leaders.
These scapegoats can’t think and keep away from dirty
political violence. We have freedom of expression and democracy in campus.
This doesn’t mean that students can violate all kinds of human rights. There
are some values that must be followed by every citizen. Campus politics
actually aims the values, maturity, collective responsibility, co-operation
among other students. But what we hear from the campus is nothing that give
us any hope but complete desperation.
This incident may be rare and isolated; but definitely a bad
symptom. What we can do at this moment is to pray lord for showing this
young generation the correct path. A wide campaign for change of the mindset
of our youth is necessary in and out of campus. Parents should monitor the
activities of their children and guide them to the correct destination. If
they notice anything wrong that should not be allowed to blossom.
Our society is such that as it develops it continues to be
blind in its mind. There is no difference between drug addicted violence or
blind political clashes. Movies are also made as encouraging violence.
Political leaders try to make their mileage out of student scapegoats. Might
is right is an old philosophy, not fit for a modern society. When the whole
world is looking for peace and non-violence, campus in God’s Own Country
should never behave like this.
It is learned that some outside interference occurred at
Changanassery. This may have caused major problem. But the police personnel
entered in the campus to protect the students and to thereby maintain law
and order situation. Who will compensate for the life of the police officer?
A sum of compensation can’t replace that precious life.
Everyone should come forward against criminalization of
campus politics. College authorities should not encourage any external
interference in the campus. Government should take strict action against the
culprits disregarding political background or party benefits.
