The difference among
diverse political parties in the LDF have been weakening the image of Kerala
government. Recent controversial statements and corruption cases have been
also widely criticized. Major coalition partners like CPI and Janata Dal
have also come forward attacking the policies of certain ministers.
Janata Dal leader M.P. Veerendrakumar recently questioned the
minister for devaswom, G. Sudhakaran on controversial statements in
connection with Aravana deal and other related issues. CPI leaders warned
CPM ministers to look after their own portfolio and not to comment on other
coalition partner's performance. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has also
disclosed that some unwanted statements and controversies affected the image
of his government badly.
LDF received a landslide victory against the UDF in the last
verdict. Public had a lot of expectations. VS Achuthanandan's image was a
big contribution to the victory. His crusade against corruption and
injustice attracted many voters despite their politics.
But later on, developments were disappointing. Due to immense
pressure from within the party and front, V.S could not shine as expected.
This was clear in Munnar land acquisition from unauthorized encroachers. In
the first stage this was a great success. But later on this rapid action had
many setbacks. V.S had to face harsh criticism within his own party and CPI.
Since then the difference has risen above the front set-up. Now the fighting
is between the ministers and other front members.
Minister G. Sudhakaran
has openly alleged that some front members didn’t co-operate in certain
developmental projects. But this minister is criticizing the top officials
in his own department also which makes little sense to the public. He
alleged some officials at Travancore Devaswom board were corrupt. The
minister is leading his department and how can the leader question his
own staff openly which shows that his own leadership is incompetent. This
act is widely criticized by left partners. Veerendrakumar stated that
Sabarimala devotees had never experienced such a big problem before citing
the instance of Aravana scarcity.
Meanwhile the minister shouted against UDF MLA who was
speaking in a meeting at Pathanamthitta Guest House. The education policy
invited lot of criticism from various parts too. The minority organizations
and NSS is against LDFs education policy. Sky rocketing price of rice and
consumer goods also affect the ministry's image badly.
There will be tough times ahead for the LDF ministry if the
differences are not quickly settled.
