Kozhikode : With poor participation and fewer enquiries from new aspirants of higher
studies made recent education fair at Jubilee Hall, Kozhikode less
impressive. The representatives of many educational consultancies and
institutes are in dismay of the changing trend or what else keep the
students off from traditional courses like medicine, engineering as well as
new courses.
Recent educational fair held at Jubilee Hall in
Kozhikode turned less impressive while there had been no remarkable
enquiries or admissions, even many representatives of prominent
professional institutions presented there for two days. The second day
morning itself some of the stalls turned back, said one of the
organizers.
When asked the participating educational institutions, many say that
comparing with Kochi and Palakkad, Kozhikode is turned to be a dull
market for higher studies, especially professional courses.
But some relieve, saying this is a temporary situation because the fair
was begun on same day of the final match of ICC world cup. Similarly
second day also was special due to all India Pre Medical entrance test. |

A view of education fair held at Jubillee
hall, Kozhikode |
“This fair is really disappointing. Many participating firms have already
left without waiting until the closing time as scheduled, due to poor
enquiries.”-says Shajan V Cyriac of Unique Enterprises, a career guidance
firm for professional courses.
However he feels the poor presence may be a temporary instance due to time
constraints and there would be a bouncing back in near future.
Somehow, others feel the educational investment in the city is falling down
comparing with Palakkad, mainly due to the gulf crisis. Many gulf returnees
have been compelled to cut down their children’s education expenditure for
maintaining a balanced family budget in the time of sky rocketing price hike
of essential commodities.
Since many professional colleges in and outside Kerala offer donation free
entry to as many of courses, the turn out of the students were still too
meager.
Many institutions like Vinayaka Mission
University, Kovai Medical Centre Research and Educational Trust, Dhanish
Ahmad College of Engineering, Indus College of Engineering, Coorg Institute
of Technology, Izee Business School, Akshaya College of Engineering and
Technology along with Career Guidance Centre, Guidant Marketing India, New
Port Educational Trust, Career Sport took part in the fair.
Courses offered in the fair included both undergraduate and post graduate
courses.
Apart from traditional courses there are many new courses were available for
undergraduate and post graduate students.
BBA, BBM, BCA, BCom, BHM, DHM, BSc. Aeronautical Science, BSc Nautical
Science, BSc Bio Chemistry, BSc Computer Science, BSc Catering Science, BSc
Fashion Designing, BSc Visual Communication, BSc Bio Informatics, BSc
Interior Designing, BSc Opthalmology, BSc. Lab Technology were some of the
degree courses offered in the fair by colleges in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and
Karnataka.
