UDF fast at Nadapuram

Kozhikode : Congress candidate of Nadapuram constituency V.M Chandran was attacked by a
group at Kayippanachy near Iringannur in Kozhikode.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate of Nadapuram Constituency V.M
Chandran was manhandled by a group of people on Friday night while he was
campaigning near Kayippanachi, Iringannur in Kozhikode. He was admitted to
Nadapuram Government Hospital. The UDF alleged CPIM (Communist Party of
India (Marxist) was behind the attack.
The incident took place when Chandran and his campaign team were moving to
Iringannur after covering Thuruthi, one of the strongholds of CPI (M) in the
constituency. Assaulters, coming on bike stopped the campaign vehicle and
asked to stop the loud speaker and manhandled the candidate and two others
in the vehicle.

Meanwhile the LDF leaders said their men had no role in yesterday’s untoward
incident.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary (KPCC) M.K Raghavan M.P,
while speaking to media at the hospital said CPM, frightened of the imminent
failure in the coming election had begun attack in various parts of the
district.

Central Minister Mullappally Ramachandran, former minister P. Shankaran,
Kerala Congress leader John Poothakuzhi also called upon Chandran along with
many UDF workers.
The UDF campaign leaders said Chandran would continue his election campaign
today, after discharging from hospital.

Protesting against the incident, the UDF workers organized a fast at
Nadapuram town. Arayillath Ravi, P.Shadhuli, C.V. Kunhikrishnan, Vaniyoth
Anthru, CVM Vanimel, Banglath Muhammad, Avolam Radha Krishnan, Thayyil
Kumaran were among the leaders who took part in the fast.
