Kozhikode:
Now it is time for Onam fairs again. Early in August,
many Onam fairs have already commenced in Kozhikode. Kairaly
handicrafts Development Corporation started their exhibition-cum sale
at Jaya auditorium, Kozhikode. Khadi board also started Onam fair and
rebate mela at their emporium situated at Mananchira, Kozhikode.
Many
varieties of fabulous articles are available at Kairali mela. Stalls
have been arranged at Jaya auditorium too. Almost all states are
participating in the event. Punjabi cottons, Banaras silks, Jaipur
items, pearls, precious sculptures and idols of deities are some of
the items on sale. Ganapathy idol made of Veetty is a
major attraction of the mela. It costs around Rs 35,000.
Bengal trisha
cotton sarees exclusively handmade is also attractive. Designer
Pradeep Kumar dutta of Kolkotta said that it will take one and half
month to manufacture a single piece. All the embroideries made on the
sarees are handmade. It costs Rs 2,500. Ramacha chappals cost below
200.
Handicrafts made of wood, metals,
bed sheets and home decorating items are available in the mela. Khadi
mela attracts many with its great cotton origins and Chooral chairs.
Mahathma silk khadi shirt is a new
item. Chunkidi sarees and other cotton, silk sarees attracts
many. 30 p.c rebates is available at Khadi mela and 10 p.c rebate has
been provided at Kairali Mela. Besides this, many private firms have
already started their discount melas at C.SI hall, Paramount tower
etc...
