Kozhikode: At last V.S; the factional
fight in the C.P.M comes to a temporary halt; The party leadership’s
decision to make Achuthanandan as Chief minister bring cheer to the party
circles and among common people looking for justice.
However Achuthanandan loyalists are
unhappy due to the fact that he would be denied the home department. Other
important discussion among political circles is that eight CPM secretariat
members who has been elected to the assembly would become ministers.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, P.K. Sreemathy, Elamaram Kareem, Paloly Muhammadkutty,
M.Vijayakumar, P.K. Gurudasan, Thomas Isaac, G. Sudhakaran, M.A. Baby, A.K.
Balan would be sworn in as ministers with Achuthanandan.
There are many crucial issues awaiting
Achuthanandan. Sex racket cases including ice cream parlour, Kiliroor etc
are top among them. It is clear that a group of leaders are afraid of
Achuthanandan’s police. Kodiyeri’s son was accused in the Kiliroor case.
Kodiyeri is one of the main loyalist of Pinarayi. This group doesn’t want to
allow V.S to rule the “police”.
Achuthanandan’s clean image and stern
actions may cause damage to other leaders. V.S’s uncompromised nature in
party matters and policies will invite new problems in ministry, believes
the other group. That is why he was denied home department. Earlier the
portfolio was handled by none other than chief minister E.K. Nayanar. In
short it has been a time honoured practice in CPM to offer home portfolio to
the chief minister.
Being a true communist Achuthanandan has
been sidelined by his rivals. But the time has changed. His yearlong fight
against mafia, struggles for people’s problems, involvement in all major
public issues have given him a name as ’peoples leader’. Last five years he
has been fighting for many crucial issues that affect common men.
He has been a crusader in the party. His
never ending willingness to work for the party gives him new
responsibilities. This eight two year’s old leader has become an energetic
leader of the masses; they expect something from him.
Can he satisfy the common men by fighting
larger social issues?
