vatakara is also known as one of the handloom centers in kearala. weavers of vatakara are hardworking people and very skill in the handloom weaving.. they are the one who can weave very finer quality as well as very coarser varieties of fabrics. there are few industrial and primary weavers co-op societies besides sevaral private weaving co. your site may include some infomn about this industry in vatakara.

i am from tamilnadu, settled in the US at present. i was in vatakara from 1977 to 1983 as handloom supervisor. i travelled extensively throguh out calicut district keeping vatakara as hqrs. for me vatakara was a home away from home. when i visited this website, i felt being visited vatakara.. thanks for the great work done about vatakara and gave me an opportunity to have a dharsan of lokanarkavu temple which i used to visit oten. vatakarakaru are known for their hospitality. i have lot of friends there. a walk through the seashore (although malsiuam nedi is there) is good, lot of ulsavams nearby temples are good to visit.. the ups and downs of roads, and crowded jeeps are some of unforgettable sceneries.. after about 23 years by now, i presume vatakara might have changed completeley withits road and shopping centers.

Anything you post about Palakkad should include info about that fine institution, The Basel Evangelical. Please include maps and directions to the many fine drinking establishments there. Indraprasta comes to mind. Velayudhan, who tended bar there and soothed many a parched throat for years, alas has moved on, but his spirit still permeates the place. Do not forget, also the many charming toddy shops that dot the suburbs, especially the Malampuzha area. Talking about social activism: we should make a concerted effort to ensure that these vendors, especially those fiercely independent ones that sell moonshine are not taken over by the Seagrams and their ilk.

It is indeed a great effort to have calicut city on the web.Detailed informations must be added to make the site worthwhile, for eg. courses offered in colleges,specialities in the hospitals,etc.A separate city map has to be provided with landmark guidence.

I want to read more about Pottakkadu in your site.. Does anybody know Kamala Nair ,Puthiyara, ? She was my class mate at the M.A.clas at Palai. It was years ago.
