Kannur's
days of glory were under the Kolathiri Rajas, and its importance as
a spice trading port was noted by Marco Polo.
From the 15th century
various colonial powers, including the Portuguese, Dutch and
British, exerted their influence over this rich Malabar Coast
region. Most of the Kannur's sites are a few kms out of
town. |
