Spam
is defined as "Unsolicited e-mail sent to large numbers of people to
promote products or services. Sexually explicit unsolicited e-mail is
called "porn spam." It also refers to inappropriate promotional or
commercial postings to discussion groups or Guide boards.
Although Spam is not a big threat, Spam is the biggest
nuisance in the world today. It is a threat in the sense that in some
cases people are hesitating to even use Internet e-mail due the deluge of
spam.
Laws fail to work: In the US, laws are in force to make
spammers quit. However so far this had no impact and the junk mail that
is marauding your inbox just continues. There are many remedies but none
that's perfect. Suggestions like charging for sending e-mails show how
difficult solutions could become.
Domain Keys & Sender ID: These are some solutions suggested. Yahoo,
AOL, Microsoft all are in work to arrive at a good solution. SPF - Sender
Policy Framework is another school of thought.
