The
General Hospital at Mahe, which is housed in a very big building
complex. Apart from the Allopathic treatment there is Ayurvedic
treatment also available. The
opening of a Homeopathy section is also on the cards. There are
Hospitals at Pallour and Pandakal. A good number of
patients from Kerala surrounding the Mahe region are availing
medical facilities in Mahe hospital.

is a public central library at Mahe and branch libraries at Chalakkara,
Pallour and Pandakkal. Reading rooms are attached to all the libraries.

The
Municipality was established by the French Government, which covers the
entire Mahe Region. It is 32 years since the Municipal election was
held. The last election was held in 1968.

PTDC
bus plies between Mahe and Pandakkal via Pallour. This is of great use
to the common people. PTDC also have bus services to Pondicherry and
Guruvayoor.
On
the National Highway passing through Mahe, there are regular bus
services to the prominent neighboring places such as Badagara,
Kozhikode, Kannur, Ernakulam Coimbatore, Mangalore and convenient
connections to various places in the north.

Introduction of uniform minimum taxes by the government of India would
have been detrimental to the business in Mahe, however this has been
conveniently solved.

only important industry is Pallour Spinning Mill under the National
Textile Corporation. There is a proposal to hand it over to a private
agency. There are 483 employees of whom 439 are permanent and 44 are
trainees.

liquor business in the entire Pondicherry state thrives due to the
relaxation of Tax. Therefore customers from the neighboring states visit
Mahe and Pondicherry for the purchase of liquor. The revenue generated
in liquor business is enormous and it is one of the integral parts of
the state economy.
